वायरटैपिंग कांड पर इस्तीफा नहीं दूंगा: मित्सोटाकिस

एथेंस, 08 अगस्त (वार्ता) यूनान के प्रधानमंत्री क्यारीकोस मित्सोटाकिस ने सोमवार को कहा कि पैनहेलेनिक सोशलिस्ट मूवमेंट (पीएएसओके) के नेता निकोस एंड्रोलाकिस के वायरटैपिंग से संबंधित घोटाले पर इस्तीफा देने का उनका इरादा नहीं है।
यूनान के सार्वजनिक टेलीविजन (ईआरटी) पर प्रधानमंत्री ने अपने संबोधन में यह बात कही। उन्होंने कहा कि वह इस्तीफा नहीं दे रहे और उनका इरादा ग्रीक नेशनल इंटेलिजेंस सर्विस (ईवाईपी )कई बदलाव के प्रस्ताव देने का है।
श्री मित्सोटाकिस ने कहा, “वह इस पद पर सेवा करना जारी रखेंगे, ताकि हर कोई एक साथ और भी मजबूत और अधिक टिकाऊ लोकतांत्रिक संस्थानों का निर्माण कर सके।”
उन्होंने ईवाईपी के काम में बदलाव के लिए चार दिशाओं की रूपरेखा तैयार की, जो यूनान सरकार प्रस्तावित करेगी, जिसमें ईवाईपी की जवाबदेही को मजबूत करना और संस्थानों और पारदर्शिता पर विशेष स्थायी समिति के माध्यम से इसकी संसदीय निगरानी शामिल है। सूचना और ईवाईपी के बेहतर उपयोग के लिए गवर्नमेंट काउंसिल फॉर फॉरेन अफेयर्स एंड डिफेंस (केवाईएसईए) की भूमिका बढ़ाना, वैध वायरटैपिंग के संदर्भ में राजनीतिक अभिनेताओं की रक्षा करना और आंतरिक नियंत्रण, पारदर्शिता और कर्मचारियों के प्रशिक्षण को मजबूत करने के लिए ईवाईपी की संरचना को बदलना शामिल है।
उन्होंने कहा, “एंड्रोलाकिस का वायरटैपिंग कानून द्वारा प्रदान की गई प्रक्रियाओं के अनुसार किया गया, लेकिन यह राजनीतिक रूप से अस्वीकार्य है और ऐसा नहीं होना चाहिए। उन्होंने स्पष्ट करते हुये कहा कि सितंबर 2021 में ईवाईपी ने राजनेता के फोन पर ‘वैध कनेक्शन’ स्थापित किया जबकि वे अभी भी एक संसद सदस्य है।

Greek PM says will not resign over wiretapping scandal
Athens, Aug 8 (UNI) Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Monday that he does not intend to resign over the scandal related to the wiretapping of Nikos Androulakis, the leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), but intends to propose a number of changes to the Greek National Intelligence Service (EYP).
The prime minister's address on the scandal was broadcast by Greek public television ERT.
According to Mitsotakis, he will continue to serve in office, so that everyone can build "even stronger and more sustainable democratic institutions" together.
Mitsotakis outlined four directions for changes in the EYP's work that the Greek government will propose, which include strengthening of the EYP's accountability and its parliamentary oversight through the Special Permanent Committee on Institutions and Transparency; increasing the role of the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA) for better use of information and the EYP; protecting political actors in the context of legitimate wiretapping; and the changing the EYP's structure to strengthen internal control, transparency, and staff training.

The wiretapping of Androulakis was carried out according to the procedures provided for by law, but it was politically unacceptable and should not have happened, Mitsotakis said, explaining that in September 2021, the EYP established a "lawful connection" to the politician's phone, while he was still a parliament member.

A political scandal erupted in Greece regarding the wiretapping by Predator spyware of the mobile phone of Androulakis, and the surveillance of journalist Thanasis Koukakis. The rime minister’s general secretary, Grigoris Dimitriadis, and head of the EYP, Panagiotis Kontoleon, were dismissed amid the scandal. Greek media called the case "Kyriakos-gate" and "Greek Watergate" by analogy to the well-known political scandal in the United States of 1972-1974, which ended with the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
The largest Greek opposition party, the Coalition of the Radical Left, said that Mitsotakis should step down after unprecedented institutional irregularities.
